Living in Bath
With its historical, cultural and social resources, the World Heritage City of Bath soon starts to feel like home to our students.
The City
Living centrally in this safe, compact and cosmopolitan environment provides optimum opportunity for our students to discover the city on foot, without need for use of public transport. Many quickly feel like members of the community, rather than merely visitors.
Within a safe and easy walk from their attractive residences, students will find the first-century Roman Baths, the fifteenth-century Abbey, various galleries, theatres and museums. Among Bath's many cafés, pubs and restaurants is the famous Pump Room, which tempts visitors in for tea, coffee, cakes and - for the bold - a taste of the naturally hot spring waters.
The city is surrounded by green, wooded hills, and the River Avon runs through its heart, making the countryside easy to explore on foot, or by bicycle.
Student life in Bath
About one in five of the city of Bath's population of 100,000 is in full-time higher education. The city is renowned for its great range of shops, and its cafés, pubs, and restaurants cater to students with various 'specials' and discounts. They act as meeting places where students can enjoy a pint or a 'cuppa', and discover the English (and the city’s many international visitors) in sociable mode. There are also venues for all types of music, theatre, film, poetry evenings and reading groups.
The ASE team organises weekly events and can help facilitate links with local volunteering agencies, clubs, sports teams and societies.
